Mini Moders, the sun is shining and we thought it would be a perfect time to share our interview with eco swimwear brand, LB Swim. Keep on reading because we also have a FAB competition for you all!
Tell us about LB Swim…
My name is Elli and I’m mum to 3 girls and 1 boy. The Lexi-Bella Story goes way back to my childhood growing up in and around water. I remember summer days spent surfing, swimming or catching stickle backs in streams.
Fast forward to the present day and you can see how Lexi-Bella was born.
I always wanted my children to have the same amazing memories that I did, so I do my best to provide the right environment for them to thrive in the same way as I did all those years ago.
Precious summers spent surfing, sailing, swimming and hunting for crabs in rock pools.
Over the years I have spent so much time hunting for the perfect swimwear for my kids. I’ve always looked for something pretty, sassy and that can stand up to the intense play that my children love.
Beautiful, contemporary, ethically made with high functioning recycled fabrics that have an SPF to ensure your child can play for as long as they choose.
Why did you choose to create an eco-conscious swimwear brand?
B Swim is an ethical and sustainable swimwear brand for girls aged 3-8.
Our swimwear is made from Econyl, a yarn made from recycled ocean plastics. The fabric is soft, durable and has a UPF50. I designed all our pieces my self with added influence from my 2 youngest daughters.
I am a swimming teacher and have been for over 20 years, I was a competitive swimmer before that so I know a good swimsuit when I see it!
Having kids has made me a lot more eco conscious, but even before that my mum instilled a sense of looking after our environment in us. So when I decided to start LB Swim I knew it had to be ethical and as sustainable as I could make it, so a lot of research was put into fabrics and manufacturers who had the same belief’s I did.
How has Mini Mode helped your brand?
Since we did the Mini Mode show we have had a lot of interest from people in the fashion industry from models to influencers. So I would say apart from making some amazing friends at the show that Mini Mode opened up our brand to a much larger audience.
What challenges have you faced as a brand?
I think as a brand, especially an eco brand that the main challenges are finding and marketing to the right demographic. Also finding the right platforms to show our swimwear.
How is your brand finding the UK childrenswear market?
The UK children’s wear market for Eco swimwear is just emerging, it has had its challenges to convince parents that its worth spending a little more to get quality that lasts and is good for the environment.
Getting in at the beginning of any market is always tough, but there are a few more companies now emerging, so I think the market is waking up to the possibilities of childrens sustainable, luxurious clothing.
What’s next for LB Swim?
The next thing for LB Swim is to hopefully expand and move into boys swimwear too, we have several new designs waiting.
Where can people find your brand?
We are an online brand so all our pieces can be found on our website www.lb-swim.co.uk or via our facebook or instagram accounts @lbswimuk
